BRI Menanam

In the heart of Indonesia, a nation known for its rich natural beauty and biodiversity, Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) embarked on a transformative journey to combat climate change, reduce air pollution, and create lasting value within the communities it serves. With a special focus on the micro-segment of its customer base, BRI initiated BRI Menanam, a tree planting program, that has not only flourished into a powerful environmental initiative but has also ignited a spark of awareness and change.

Our Progress in BRI Menanam

BRI Menanam is a testament to the bank's commitment to creating value beyond the balance sheet. It showcases the power of collaboration, environmental stewardship, and community engagement in the fight against climate change. With each tree planted, BRI, together with its customers and communities, is leaving a legacy of sustainability and a greener, cleaner Indonesia for generations to come. This initiative stands as a beacon of hope and a reminder that even the smallest actions can create a significant impact when nurtured with care and dedication.

Our approach is characterized by close collaboraton with local communites, and our initatives are designed to yield dual benefits, both in terms of environmental sustainability and community prosperity. In the selecton of tree species, careful consideraton has been given to maximize the advantages, not only in enhancing air quality but also in facilitatng tangible benefits for the communites we serve. Consequently, our focus will be on productive tree species, including but not limited to Durian, Mango, Avocado, Orange, and others.

We have been planting more than 680.000 trees in around 2.200 villages throughout Indonesia. Over the next 20 years, these trees have the potential to absorb an astonishing 158,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2eq). In additon to our existing contributions, BRI is committed to a further expansion of our environmental efforts in the current fiscal year. Specifically, BRI pledges to initiate the planting of an additional 330,000 trees in 1,000 distinct villages throughout Indonesia. Consequently, by the conclusion of 2023, we anticipate the cultivation and nurturing of over one million trees distributed across 3,000 separate villages.

Subsidiary Participation in BRI Menanam

Our initiatives have influenced one of our subsidiaries to encourage similar initiatives. In 2022, PNM also took the initiative in BRI Menanam program. Focusing on utilizing available spaces such as front yards, home terraces, and various corners within the residential areas, BRI Menanam aims to foster collaboration with the surrounding community, particularly PNM Mekaar Women Customer Group, in limited space. Last year alone, PNM Mekaar has planted more than one million horticulture seeds. BRI Menanam initiated by PNM not only contributed to environmental sustainability, but also added significant economic value to our customers and the community through the cultivation of horticulture plants like tomatoes, eggplants, spinach, and various other vegetables
